Kennedy Blair Profile
Kennedy Blair was apprenticed to the manufacturing jewellery trade completing the five years it took to become a journeyman by the age of 20. He has spent many years perfecting his skills of creating beautiful jewellery in all precious metals including Platinum, Palladium, White, Red and Yellow Gold and Sterling Silver. Also setting diamonds as well as other precious stones including Emeralds, Sapphires Rubies, opals and the numerous semi precious gems.
Ornamenting and chaising although being classed as a separate trade has been added to Mr Blair’s extensive coverage of the jewellery trade which allows him to claim the mantle of the Master Craftsman.
Mr Blair has created and sold many thousands of diamond and wedding rings and the name Kennedys is synonymous with craftsmanship, quality and trust throughout Canterbury and in fact rings made by him are to be found in many parts of New Zealand and overseas.
The handmaking of jewellery is to a large extent a disappearing skill as the advent of the chain store retailer has required the multiplication of particular styles by the rapid process of casting which of course takes away the individuality and uniqueness of any piece. It is recognised that a hand crafted item of jewellery will outlast a cast ring because the gold has been “wrought” and toughened in the process thereby giving the metal greater wearability. Most persons appreciate this fact that if they are planning investing a thousand dollars or may be several thousand dollars they wish to own a unique ring that is individual to them and that reflects their own personality.
